APX Labs, which sells Skylight — software that connects wearable tech to enterprises — is out with a smart “periodic table” of the enterprise wearable ecosystem. It’s worth looking at because it gets so much right. The chart’s focus is not on hardware or software, although those layers are certainly represented. Instead, it breaks down enterprise needs by function. Categories on the edges — communications on the left, and “work and help” on the right — are about “doing your work,” Ed English, APX’s chief product officer told WTI. “If the left-hand column is about connecting to people, the right-hand column is about connecting to work, getting your help and getting instructions.”

Makerspaces, wearable technologies and adaptive learning technologies are three of the six technologies that will have a profound impact on higher education within the next five years, according to the NMC Horizon Report: 2015 Higher Education Edition, released Wednesday by the New Media Consortium and the Educause Learning Initiative.
The annual report is developed by a panel of higher education experts to identify major developments in education technology and technological trends that will help shape teaching and learning in the near future. The researchers also identify the six most significant challenges facing education in the coming years.
Technological developments are sorted into three categories: those whose impact will be felt soon (or is being felt now), those that will come into p[lay in the mid-term (two to three years) and those that are a bit further out on the horizon (four to five years)…
Technology is progressing at an astonishing rate and none more so than wearable tech. Despite this wearables are still very much a niche product and a buzzword for many but some organisations are already reaping the benefits from their employees using smartwatches, health monitors and even treadmill desks. Devices like this can boost not only wellness but also productivity, job satisfaction and even data security.
